A manufacturer document has changed. What should the engineer check?
A new file appears in the VSK library. Does the maintenance plan need to change? The title alone cannot tell you. The document may cover another serial number, a different installation or only a few replacement pages. Start with scope, changes and completeness.
Check the aircraft and the installed equipment
Select the type, model and serial number, then read the document’s own applicability statement. A matching model in the catalogue is only a starting point. The installed item or an earlier modification may determine whether the document applies.
An addendum for one ADS-B installation does not automatically describe another installation with the same purpose. Match the equipment designations and check the configuration records.
A new download is not necessarily a new revision
Record the designation, revision, document date and source. Keep the retrieval date separate. A file downloaded today may have been approved years ago.
Check the appendices and list of effective pages. If part of the package is unavailable, identify the missing sheet or file. Reviewing a fragment does not establish that the full document has been checked.
Ask a question the engineer can resolve
“Confirm these ten documents” leaves too much to unpack. A useful question identifies one document, the relevant section and the reason a decision is needed, with the original attached. For instance: “Is this equipment designation installed? Please provide the configuration record.”
Acknowledging receipt and confirming applicability are different actions. An applicable document may still need analysis before tasks, intervals or working conditions change. “I have read it” is not a maintenance-plan amendment.
Following a revision in CAMOLOG
Open the revision register from the individual aircraft record. Document questions appear in the engineer’s discussion with originals and supporting evidence. This makes it possible to return to one disputed point without searching the whole package again.
VSK library checks depend on valid access and a configured connection. Received revisions are reviewed, and changes are taken forward after the necessary confirmations. Keep the reason for a not-applicable decision with the document too.
This article describes a records workflow. Applicability, maintenance limits and airworthiness decisions require engineering review against the applicable documentation.
